Happy Birthday to me

It is my birthday as of about an hour ago and I thought it deserved a posting...

My gift to myself this year is going to be not accepting mediocrity as a standard of life. The past few months I have allowed myself to live by sub-standards and from here on out the aim is excellence! In my opinion this will be the best gift I receive. So the real question is what is excellence???

Its Latin root is excellentia, which is rooted in the verb excellere meaning to surpass. With that in mind excellence is merely surpassing what has been done in the past.

As I look in my past I must admit that I have had some shining moments that made both me and my mom proud. those moments are going to be the standards I must surpass. I guess my gift to myself this year is somewhat like a belated New Years resolution.

The key to obtaining excellence will be to pick my best moments in my life and link goals to help surpass those moments. Goals however mean nothing unless written down. To be even more effective goals which are written down and told to others are achieved much more frequently. So you the reader will be the ones who will be told my goals...

They however have not been completed so in my next posting you will learn what I will be striving for over the next... long time... maybe..... forever?

Freedom of Choice

So this may be a sad commentary on my life, but for the last hour I have been watching the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency on the Oxygen channel. I was watching with a couple of buddies (we are all straight) and in this particular episode they were having a rally for the PETA organization. I personally have nothing against PETA. I do like eating meat though and I have been known to slip into leather pants on occasion. None-the-less its an organization following what they
believe and that is what America and the marketplace of ideas is all about.

What I do have a problem with is the treatment people receive for choosing to be different than the majority. In this particular episode the models watched a movie provided by PETA about wearing fur and they all decide to join the PETA rally following the motto of "I would rather go naked than wear fur" still I have no problem. Before the rally begins Janice stands up and says any model who doesn't want to participate doesn't have to and the rally is not required. That being said one model, Ligia, steps forward and chooses not to be a part of the rally (knowing that she will continue to wear fur since she is a friggin model!!!). Either way everyone else gangs up on here later and one chick even threatens to "kick her ass". Needless to say one person comes to her side just before she leaves due to the verbal attacks and tries to set things straight.

In response to this episode, i just have to say those of you who think you are better than others due to your views regarding animal treatment, politics, or even what cereal you eat each morning: WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CONSTITUTION!!! This country was based on the ability to have a different opinion and not be singled out!!!

I plan to make a concerted effort in my own life to honor the views of others.

Update on the Author

For those of you reading this and aren't living anywhere near me this is my update on me blog. Its like the getting to know you game, except you already know me!

Most recent important event of my life was my graduation form Utah State University back in December of 2007. I received my degree in the Journalism and Communications Department with an emphasis in Public Relations. Currently I have no big job offers on the horizon, but I do work at Best Buy which in my opinion as to be somewhere on the pathway to success.

The babe scene is lacking for sure. It appears that some chicks are allergic to me so that kinda stinks but life goes on!

Future plans are to begin my plasma donating career tomorrow afternoon other than that life is as a college grad is pretty chill!

Whats up?!!

I am obviously starting a blog. So here it is! I have a Bachelors Degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations and this blog will serve as a medium for me to keep up my writing skills (and hopefully improve them). That being said some of the writing here will be of a more professional quality and others will just be rants. I anticipate a healthy portion of ranting and some smatterings of professional work.

All in all I consider myself to be the type to entertain so in the end all of the published work on this page will serve as entertainment more than anything.
